2024-04-16 California 100% Renewables for 30 Days!

That’s great news! One thing I just remembered is that the nuclear power plants (Diablo Canyon, Palo Verde) usually shut down for maintenance in the spring when demand is lowest.  Otherwise they normally run 24/7 and there wouldn’t be any time during the day when it would be 100% renewables. California exceeds 100% of energy

2024-04-05 Graphic Shows Renewables Percent Of Total Electric Generation 2000 to 2023

This is a very good graphic of the percent of total electricity renewables have grown to since 2000.  Notice the bulging in April and September, and flattening during the summer.  These are caused by the changes in demand during the hot weather.  We need this to be 100% ASAP in order to prevent climate disaster!

2024-02-10 China Says Wind, Solar Are About 40% Of Installed Power Generation

The 15 MW onshore wind turbine’s blades are the least of this news.  The following is the big part of this story.  Quote: “”The China Electricity Council said in its latest annual report that wind and solar would make up around 40% of the country’s installed power generation capacity by the end of 2024 –

2022-06-14 Calif Reached 100% Renewable Electricity

Originally an EarthDay.org article. They made 3 points. They said, <<California must still rely on fossil fuels to meet its energy demands.>> The peak energy demands can be reduced by using a ‘smart grid’ where the grid has some control over the heavier demands. One example is residential HVAC and hot water. These can be

2022-04-30 Texas Goes Big With Renewables

What’s amazing about Texas is that such a large amount of renewables, especially wind, has been brought online in the last decade. There’s over 30 GW of wind power alone. That’s like a dozen full size power plants. Also it’s amazing how much water is used by conventional thermal power plants. quote: << Reloj del

2022-02-03 Electricity: China Uses 2600 MW By Year End

Wow! 2600 GW total by year’s end! That’s *twice* as much as the whole US uses! But it’s really amazing that half of that will be renewables, which is a very commendable achievement since China’s renewables have grown a huge amount very quickly. The only sad part is that so much of the total is

2021-12-24 Renewables Vs Fossil Fuels: VALCOE

Engineering with Rosie dives into the VALCOE – value adjusted levelized cost of energy. This is adjusted for time of use – most solar is available only during daylight hours. https://youtu.be/6_BGHy4sfMs She uses a car race analogy to compare the solar, onshore wind, coal and gas. Solar and wind win the race. One thing I
