2021-06-04 EVs Will Require More Power Plants Debunked

My reply to FB comment.

Jeffery D. Elliott
Said, “… the demand for electricity [for charging] will require more power plants and that will drive the cost up. You don’t hear much about that.”

The reason why you don’t ‘hear much about that’ is because it’s *not true*.

The amount of power wasted by the gasoline car is more than 75%, the amount of power wasted by an EV is less than 10%. The amount of electricity used by all the EVs is not any more than the amount of electricity saved by no longer mining oil or making the gasoline or oil refining or transporting or storing or pumping and the the power used by gas stations and the whole oil industry, which will shrink dramatically.

Don’t believe these “require more power plants” nonsense.

Along with the decrease in oil refining, transporting and using fossil fuels, there will be a drop in emissions and air pollution, up to 90%. We will have much healthier air. With more room to plant trees in cities, there will be a much better living environment.

2021-06-04 Scientists Harvest Lithium From Seawater

Scientists have cost-effectively harvested lithium from sea water. This also produces hydrogen and chlorine and can use the leftover brine from desalination plants. It requires a lithium lanthanum titanium oxide (LLTO) membrane. Very interesting!

2021-06-04 China Will Have To Shut Down Coal Power Plants

Everyone complains that China is the worst polluter and CO2 source. But things will change.

From comment in FB group renewable energy

China has a lot more solar than any other country, and produces a lot more renewable energy. If the conventional thermal power plants, which require constant refueling, can’t compete with the solar and wind plus battery storage systems then the government will have to subsidize the conventional power plants or else shut them down. The cost of solar or wind plus storage is under $0.07 (US) per kWh, which is cheaper than the cost of transmission !!! In other words, it’s cheaper to build community or rooftop solar plus storage than it costs just to get the power from the power plants to the cities! Forget about the costs of generation and distribution.

China will have to capitulate and shut down coal and gas power plants just to save the money. #StrandedAssets

2021-06-03 ‘Black Wednesday’ For Big Oil

Up until lately, Big Oil has been paying token lip service to climate change; it has been business as usual with little action taken. But now shareholders are taking action with their votes against Big Oil’s complacency and greenwashing.

But the court ruling against Shell is really the most damning. Shell must make its actions conform to claims it has made. It’s no longer business as usual.

This article makes the ultimate point.

By Shell appealing the ruling, this is a de facto admission that they are unable and unwilling to comply with the Paris Agreement. They are between the rock and the hard place.

Quote:

<< Shell has said it will appeal against the “disappointing” ruling, which calls for the company to align with the emissions targets set out in the Paris Climate Agreement. The decision could lead to years of legal wrangling and prove profoundly damaging to Shell’s reputation.

“If they truly believe their strategy aligns with Paris, then there should be no problem complying with the court’s demands,” says Teulings. “Shell’s decision to appeal is therefore irreconcilable. Therein lies the lie.” >>

2021-06-02 Scientists’ Climate Change Agendas??

From FB group climate change

Simo Ruoho said,
“This is climate, free of agendas.”

I don’t see where the scientists who predict ‘climate change’ as we know it have an agenda. They are deathly afraid of what their observations show is happening and measurements and models show what the future will be like. They would much rather have ‘business as usual’, the same lack of concern that humans have had for a few hundred years.

The scientific method is to be skeptical of the experimental results obtained by other scientists, and to replicate the experiment to confirm or disprove those results. If the results are confirmed by many other scientists, then the original hypothesis is accepted as valid.

This climate change theory has gone through the same rigorous experimenting, and has been confirmed by other scientists. The agendas that I see are hoping for results that climate change is much less of a problem than scientists have found it to be, so they won’t have to be so concerned about the future. But the opposite has happened.

But perhaps the scientists should ignore the warning signs and let humanity make large amounts of the Earth uninhabitable. That would be an agenda — population reduction caused by ignoring the climate change predictions. 😱😱😱

2021-06-01 MicroHydro power from Water Mains

There is a lot of power being wasted by pressure reducers in water mains. In this YouTube video Matt Ferrell looks at microhydro- and picohydropower turbine-generators that are powered by the drops caused by pressure reducers in water systems. These are capable of generating hundreds to tens of thousands of watts and recover energy that would otherwise be lost.

2021-06-01 Hydrogen Electrolyzer For Quebec

I’m hopeful that more of these green hydrogen electrolyzer systems are going to be installed. The hydrogen is accomplishing more than one thing. The electrolyzers are putting to good use the excess renewables power that would otherwise be wasted.

The green hydrogen is, of course, being used to replace fossil fuels, and thus reducing CO2 emissions. That’s the primary reason for renewables – solar and wind.

The renewables are intermittent, with a capacity factor of around 25% to 33%. So there needs to be 3 to 4 times the renewables to provide the total electricity needed. But since there are often times when there is too much power, the power must not be wasted. Using it to make green hydrogen is one way to store the power.

2021-05-31 Wet Bulb Temperature – Live Or Die?

The highest wet bulb temperature that humans can survive is 35 degrees Celsius; above that the human body cannot dissipate the heat it makes and will die. In the tropics between 20 degrees north and 20 degrees south latitude, the wet bulb temperature can be only a few degrees below 35 C, and climate change may cause this to go even higher until it reaches 35 degrees Celsius or more. In this case, in some areas humans may not be able to live. I didn’t see anything about other warm-blooded animals but I assume they would not be able to survive, too.

In this YouTube video, Dave of Just Have Another Think explains.

2021-05-30 Solar, Wind + Batteries Disrupting FCAS ‘Base Load’ Services

This YouTube video by Tony Seba is stating that utility scale batteries of 2% disrupt 90% of fossil fuel peaker plants.

This video has a lot of graphs showing the trends.

https://youtu.be/AV3MweskE0w

The amount of utility scale batteries needed to replace much of the peaker plants is just a small percentage.

200 mile range EVs will be only $10,000 to $15,000 by 2025.

Oil demand will go down from 100m to 70m barrels per day, and crude oil prices will crash. Refineries will become stranded assets.

The total cost of solar plus 4 hours of battery storage is cheaper than the *operating costs* of conventional power plants. These power plants will become stranded assets.

The cost of transmission alone is more than the cost of solar plus batteries.

<< Every factory, warehouse, business, building, shopping center, parking lot, house, everywhere will have SOLAR, BATTERIES…

For purely economic reasons. >>
