The TA7642 (AKA ZN414) is a crippled IC. Because it has only 3 leads it can’t act like a normal IC that has an input, output, power and ground. The output has to come out of the power supply pin. It’s limited to only 2 or so volts. As a result this IC can’t have much gain because the output is on the power to the input amplifier! How stupid can you get?? If the output was not inverted then the output would cause the input to oscillate. If the output was inverted, then it cancels the input signal and the output is weak.
So instead of using this IC you just use 1 or more transistors to do the job properly and make a real radio.
