He’s not harsh enough on condemning antivaxxers. The antivaxxers are making money upon the deaths of innocent people who fall for their lies. The antivaxxers kill many to make money by lying to others that they are trying to save lives. There is a special place in hell for that kind of pure evil.*
Everyone should have the right to choose to protect themselves from deadly disease. But when other unscrupulous grifters feed them Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt in order to make money, then the grifters should be punished.
If you refuse to get vaccinated then the virus has your permission to kill you. You’re one less foolish human who is wasting space and resources on earth. It’s okay to give your body back to Mother Nature to be reborn as a person with more common sense.
I said a prayer at night:
May the great Almighty dispel the misconceptions of vaccine hesitancy and replace them with the truth that getting vaccinated is the right thing to do.

2021-08-07 Autonomous Ride Hailing – Tesla And Others

Tesla has stated that their business is not to prevent other car makers from competing; they want to get rid of ICEVs.
But Tesla is so far ahead of the others and is going so fast that it will be very difficult for others to catch them.
The big question is what happens when Tesla (or other car makers) reaches full level 5 autonomous vehicles. The prediction is that the autonomous ride hailing business will use the cars that sit parked and unused for 95% of the time to do what Uber and Lyft do: make money for the car owner. And that will mean that there will no longer be the need for 70% of the cars on the road. This will be a huge loss for car makers including Tesla but Tesla has the energy business to make enough money to succeed.
Will the other auto makers – that depend solely on autos – lose so much money that they will go out of business? Or will they merge and consolidate to keep afloat in a dwindling market? If this occurs there will very likely be a lot fewer car makers in a much smaller market, with more than one having greater than 10% share of a smaller market.

Article graphs EIA reports on electricity generated by state. “Small scale solar” is supposed to include rooftop solar. California comes out far ahead with solar. Texas is far ahead with wind. What must be done is get those many lagging states to convert away from coal and to renewables. Some states have very little wind or solar but a closer look shows they have a lot of renewable hydroelectricity.

I would like to think that since GM has already been in the EV biz more than a decade, they above all others would have the most experience with such esoterica as all the intricacies of making the battery as cost efficient as possible since it’s the most expensive part.
Admittedly they’re nowhere as nimble as Tesla when it comes to assembly technology, but they’ve had a decade to get their act together and on the road. All this said, if they can’t make it through the EV transition, it’s difficult to see how any other legacy car makers could do any better.
Also we should consider alternatives to bankruptcy, namely merging with some other car maker similar to what Chrysler did.

I was a member, not by choice, for half of my 33 years with the college district. I saw more abuses by the college district against employees than the union against the college district. And remember, this was a public sector college; I would think it would be worse if it was private sector.
Walmart has had to pay hundreds of millions in fines because of abuse of employees such as overtime ‘off the clock’ and unpaid, part-time employees w/o benefits working almost full-time, and so many more. It’s obvious to me that the unions were made necessary because a majority of employees were without rights. And now the trend has reversed. Unions have become less common not because of reduction in the amount of abuses by employers, but because of the constant battles by employers to make the laws against employee abuse less effective.
You said employers get shaken down by unions. But I’ve seen many, many more reasons to defend employee’s rights than to defend the rights of employers. It’s the reason why there are so many ex-employees – the employers retaliate against them for blowing the whistle on the employer for violating the law.
