2021-03-24 We Don’t Know What We Don’t Know

From a thread about what are the chances of intelligent life on other worlds outside of our solar system.

Rick Flemming
Why should anyone agree that “…the probability of life on other planets is greater than zero.”

There is the thin sliver of the pie chart with *things we know*. The rest of the pie chart is things we don’t know. But we don’t even know how big the pie chart is because…

we don’t know how much we don’t know!!

We don’t even know where the dark matter that’s supposed to be ‘out there’ is!! We haven’t found most of it!

You can speculate all you want about what’s out there in other star systems but they’re too far away to ever be reached by anything that can travel at less than the speed of light. Even at the speed of light they’re too far away. There is no way to prove one way or the other that life exists in another star system.

2021-03-24 Tesla Disruptive Tech And Competition

From TSLA shareholders FB group

Allen Madison
One thing that I haven’t seen any information on is whether or not other carmakers will be replacing or expanding. If other carmakers replace existing ICE production with EVs, then there is no change in the number of cars that others produce. There are only so many customers who want a new car, so the supply vs. demand stays the same. Tesla has been expanding — it didn’t have any existing production to begin with. This scares the crap out of other carmakers because it’s taking away market share. They’re looking at Tesla’s disruptive change and seeing that the future of the auto market will be a future without them if they don’t quickly change to EVs.

But Tesla has a huge headstart and technological advantages. Tesla has already sued Rivian for theft of their intellectual property. There will be more competition and Tesla will be on top.

2021-03-23 Dirty Dave’s Fish Aquarium

I just saw on FB an empty box on store shelf labeled invisible tape. No wonder the box looks empty! 🙄😂

This reminded me of Dirty Dave – he was a painter so he picked up that name because his clothes were speckled with paint.

One day at his apartment he said here, have a beer. After awhile I noticed his big, beautiful aquarium was full of water but had no fish.

I asked him where are the fish?

He said with a perfectly straight face, “They’re right there. They’re glass fish and they’re hard to see.”

Good for a laugh but that’s a story that’s believable only if you’re really wasted.

😄😂

2021-03-23 There Must Be Change To Fight Climate Change

https://lettercause.com/hundreds-of-frightened-and-furious-scientists-call-for-global-academic-rebellion/

Conspicuous by their absence in the list of countries are the most populous countries – we know who they are.

I truly believe that more will change if more become aware. That means a heavy dose of education, including using newsmedia, changing curricula in institutions of higher education, and indoctrinating upper management of large corporations. There will be no corporations unless they change to fight climate change.

2021-03-23 Life After CoVID19 Isn’t Fair

From FB comment

Seems that we already have most of those except term limits. Since Congress determines laws regarding their own term limits, it’s unlikely that will happen. The way that is most likely to happen is with a constitutional amendment.

I’m not sure that drug screening before welfare would be of much help. If drug addicts are forced into becoming homeless, they just steal to feed their habit. Then they get caught and get a free room and board with a place to sleep and 3 meals a day. And most likely they will not be productive members of society.

Nobody wanted to lose their job, become homeless and unemployed for more than a year because of this pandemic, but that’s what happened.

We’re all in this helluva predicament and it’s not our fault and it’s not fair. The people should try to help one another, not hate. We’re trying to do the best we can given the bad circumstances we’re all in. 😞😞

2021-03-22 LCOE Levelized Cost Of Energy – NREL

From FB reply

Nuclear power plants are too expensive and are being taken out of service and decommissioned. The San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station is being decommissioned at a cost of 4.4 billion dollars and will take 20 years.

LCOE levelized cost of energy is how a utility judges its generating assets. Nuclear and conventional power plants can’t compete with renewables plus storage which continues to cost less. They’re the future. Don’t believe it? That’s what NREL says.

2021-03-20 Energy Harvest Website

Reply on FB group climate change

Den Wilmeth
Much of what this website says is valid, but no further information is given, such as references or where to buy the thing. For instance, you can already buy a solar roof with the shingles, not panels, from Tesla Energy.

There is a renewables revolution happening, and as it says, the fossil fuels will be eliminated. Hopefully nuclear power because it’s too expensive. Someday there may no longer be any need for dams for power. Hydropower will be “run of the river” instead. Dams may still be needed for irrigation and flood control.

Other parts of this website are not good ideas. Example: “artistic design by artists, not boring…” This is a waste of much needed labor.

It says “The cause of air pollution is big city living.”
The cause of air pollution is the use of fossil fuels in big cities. Once the fossil fuels are eliminated the air will be tens or hundreds of times cleaner and healthier.

The growing of feed for livestock and the livestock are wasting a huge amount of land, water and resources, and must be reduced. There are areas in south Oklahoma and north Texas where the aquifer is running dry and it’s too expensive to drill wells.

Update 22 Mar – This website seems to no longer work. Thet person, Den Wilmeth, put the link in his comments and then apparently took it offline.
