Tesla has negotiated to build a factory in the state of Karnataka in India.

I’ve heard opinions about the Indian market for Tesla vehicles and they think that India’s middle class – forget the poor – could afford to buy only tens of thousands of EVs, not enough to justify building a car factory there. Some suggested Tesla should build a factory for 3-wheeled electric rickshaws selling for $4000 apiece. 😮🙄

So the pundits believe most of the Tesla factory will be for making batteries and energy products like Powerwalls and solar roofs. They believe there is a huge market in India for these.

In this YouTube video, Tony Seba shows us that 100% renewables plus storage, when it is about 4x the electricity demand, will be enough for powering the electricity sector. In the future with 20% more, the Solar, Wind and Battery Storage will be enough to power all sectors except for the industrial sector. It will get much cheaper so that fossil fuel energy will not be able to compete with it.

2021-02-17 CO2 Capture And Sequestration – Thoughts

I read a lot of warnings that we have gone past the point where the global warming would stop at 1.5 degrees C, so now we must stop emitting CO2 and also begin to remove it from the atmosphere. I read about carbon capture and storage but these have the major problem that the energy they need to do their job is causing more CO2 to be emitted. If you look at these systems as a whole, including the emissions from the power they use, then these systems look very inefficient. That is why so many advocate for reforestation to remove CO2.

What is needed is to have all of the energy used in these CO2 capture systems to be from zero CO2 emitting sources such as wind, solar and hydropower. This means that we must put priority on converting our energy sources to be totally run from renewables: solar and wind. Furthermore, as we transition away from fossil fuels it will put a much greater demand on renewable electricity.

The home heating that is done with natural gas will have to be switched to hydrogen or electric heat pumps. The water heaters will have to be heated by something other than natural gas — I’m thinking that a heat pump combined with solar water heating along with supplemental electric heating. Cooking would be with a microwave oven or electric range. Warm water for the bathroom could be solar heated water stored for later use. The kitchen hot water could be from a tankless electric water heater. The dishwasher is a huge electricity waster and should be eliminated.

So now we have switched over to renewables. Much more electricity will be need to supply increased demand. The natural gas could be replaced by hydrogen, but this must be green (renewable) hydrogen that is not made from fossil fuels. So this will take a large amount of electricity to electrolyze water into hydrogen. The hydrogen will be mostly used for heavy transportation.

You should have learned from the lockdown last year that the people who were being separated from their children and sent back were the same ones who picked the food you eat; the same ones who worked at the meat plants and got CoVID19 from their coworkers. The same ones who clean Trump hotel rooms. And, yes, the same ones who even fought in Afghanistan and Iraq. I knew a guy who received a purple heart there. There is no comparison to the inhumane way that the Trump administration treated immigrants, especially asylum seekers.

And what really is ludicrous is all this lunacy was taking place while there are more than 11 million illegals already in the US. What about them?

2021-02-16 Finding The Resistance Of A Dropping Resistor

In the schematic, find the difference in voltage between the two ends of the resistor. You can find the current through each of the tubes being fed from the unknown resistor by calculating it from the voltage across the tube’s cathode resistor divided by the resistance of the cathode resistor. For instance, if there is 7 volts across the cathode resistor of 1000 ohms, then the current through that tube is 7 mA.

So say there are three tubes being fed from that unknown resistor: 7 mA, 7mA and 6 mA. That adds up to 20 mA. You can calculate the resistance of that unknown resistor by dividing the voltage by the total current in amps. Say it’s 50 volts and 20 mA or 0.02 Amps. 50 / 0.02 = 2500 ohms. Then multiply the voltage by the current to get the power in watts. If it’s 1 watt, give the resistor some safety margin. Instead of a 1 watt resistor, use a 2 watt instead.

Remember the theory about the two dimensional beings who live in a two dimensional world, similar to a sheet of paper. Their perception of a 3 Dimensional object is like a slice of that object as it moves through their 2D world.

Similarly, you observe time as a dimension as it flows through our world. But the ‘time slices’ are progressive and ever advancing. You could theorize what time is if you’re a multi-time dimensional being, but any hypothesis, no matter how preposterous — like time travel — will be impossible to prove or disprove. We’re locked into a time dimensioned world where anything and everything is dependent on time’s unvarying and constantly advancing dimension.

The very essence of reality — was, is, will be — now, before, after — yesterday, today, tomorrow — using a verb in a sentence: gone, going, will go — everything we do has time imbedded in it. Measurements of everything relates to time. Time is the essence of who we are.

Think about this:

Another important point. The three dimensions – height, width, depth – are inextricably tied to time. The Earth orbits around the Sun and the Sun orbits around the galaxy. So the Earth’s position in the universe is like a corkscrew: it’s going around the Sun while the Sun moves forward in its orbit. The Earth rotates once a day. And the Milky Way galaxy is moving, too. So we are never in the same place in the universe of time even if we stand absolutely still.

2021-02-13 Trump’s 2nd Impeachment, 2nd Acquittal

A friend asked me what I thought about the results of the second impeachment. I had seen the newsmedia that said that they had talked to some of the Republicans and there was a consensus that there would not be the two-thirds of the votes needed to convict Trump. So when the final votes were taken there were no surprises — the Senators had only 7 Republicans who had voted to convict. The Senate still needed ten more to convict. All fifty Democratic senators voted to convict.

After seeing what Trump did on January 6th, I think that Trump should have been convicted. That’s why the House of Representatives voted to impeach him.

The newsmedia talked about how afraid the Republicans were of losing the next election if they had voted for conviction. They think that Trump will spend the $millions of campaign donations he has received on defeating any Republican who voted to convict him. There were seven Republican senators who voted for conviction, so we will have to wait until their terms expire to see if they have to fight Trump to get reelected.

All of the fifty Democratic senators voted to convict Trump. I think that the Democrats should use the same tactic on the 47 Republican senators who voted against conviction. The Democrats should make a PAC (political action committee) that raises money. The PAC’s mission is to defeat all the Senators who voted to acquit Trump. Notice I did *not* say Republicans or any party. They are not after any senator; they are going after Trump. It has been said that we “Fight fire with fire.” In this case, fear is what we’re fighting. The ‘trumpist’ senators will have to fear both Trump and the “Trump Not PAC”. Or “No Trump PAC” Or “Anti-Trump PAC” Whichever name it will be called.

The first senator the PAC will go after is Mitch McConnell. McConnell said, “There is no question — none — that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of the [January 6th attempted coup]. No question about it.” See this YouTube video. Then why didn’t he vote to convict? A technicality that Trump was no longer in office. That’s a bogus technicality. McConnell said, “Trump is still responsible for everything he did while he was in office.” Well, then WHY didn’t he vote for conviction? He’s a two-faced hypocrite.

There are a few other prominent and outspoken senators who should be made examples of. Fear is a forceful instinct. From the past poor performance of Congress — on both sides of the aisle — the voters haven’t spoken loud enough with their votes; the people have to speak louder with their money.

2021-02-13 Speaker Made From A Steel Sheet And Audio Output Transformer

I made one of these back in 1970 or so. It was inside of a coffee can using the lid for the speaker.

This class A power LED driver works good for making a speaker from an audio output transformer and any sheet of steel, even a coffee can with a steel cover.

Strip the transformer and remove the ‘I’ laminations, leaving the ‘E’ laminations. Connect the speaker leads of the ‘E’ in place of the LED. Power up the class A power amp and connect it to a radio earphone output. Then hold the three ‘E’ lamination poles about 1/8 inch or 3 mm away from the steel sheet, like the side of a washing machine. The steel sheet will transduce the audio.

Thanks for the link to the article. The article is written with false information (e.g. li-Ion batteries cannot be recycled), the reference used is at least 8 years out of date, and the most telling is the last sentence: the author is a shill for the hemp battery industry. This article is bogus, and uses out of date references.

The amount of lithium in the latest technology cells is very small. They make an exaggerated claim that in EVs the lithium is 25 pounds — it’s less than that, and there is no shortage of lithium. The article claimed that there would be a shortage by 2020. There is *no* shortage. There is an increasing demand for nickel, and mining that is being developed. The EV batteries are being recycled responsibly by Redwood company in the US and Volkswagen in Germany, to name a few.

Get off your high horse and do your research with up to date references. The EV industry has changed radically in the last decade.

The ranges of Tesla EVs are from 250 to 500 miles on a charge. They can be charged in 20 minutes. There are thousands of charging points across the US. The adapter allows charging at RV parks. The adapter allows a Tesla to be charged at home for 1/5 the cost of gasoline.

You’re the one who had to show something to back up your claims regarding the Teslas your friends have.

You don’t need rapid charging at home since it can be charged at night during lowest demand. The Tesla Superchargers are being upgraded to charge faster than 20 minutes. They were 100 kW, now 150 or 250.

The highway with hills get better mileage than stop and go driving in town. The uphill discharge is partly recovered on the downhill. Stop and go traffic uses up charge which is wasted as heat in the brakes.

The big waster of power is the HVAC system. Unlike ICE cars, Tesla had to use a heating element to heat the car. They are changing over to a heat pump that gets much better efficiency. And the heat can be reduced by the seat warmers.

Tesla is updating the software over the air often as improvements have been introduced. The arguments you claim may be solved by newer updates or in the newer models.

The Gigafactory Texas will be building the Tesla semi’s. They will be using batteries. >>

The specifications for Tesla vehicles are online, including the Semi, which they have had prototypes which are being used in Real Life transport from Giga Nevada for awhile. The “E cargo transport” is definitely viable.

The mileages are for EPA and Euro testing. There are dozens of “independent reviews” including Consumer Reports, which is the toughest. You’re the one who is “still sidestepping…” And you could be sued for defaming a product that has been acclaimed by many independent reviewers. The simple fact is that an $800 billion company does *not* base their products on your so-called “blue sky” hyperbole and still be unable to meet the huge demand for their products. What makes me even more certain that you don’t know what you are talking about is that Tesla has *zero* commercial advertising, all of their sales are from word-of-mouth from their customers, who often own a second Tesla, too. So I call BS on your claims. >>
