I slowed the speed down to 0.25 and set the jump back and forward to 5 seconds – it helps a lot to view and review sections of the video. You have the feeling you’re inside of the mechanism, it’s all around you, working to assemble the machine. It’s amazing!

The EIA assumed, contrary to *their own* data, that the capacity factor of coal power plants would continue to be 85% (this is explained in the video). Instead the capacity factor has dropped, causing the LCOE to skyrocket.

This is important. Elon was right: Solar is the future.. The problem was that the EIA failed to account for the S curve of Wright’s Law. The lower the cost, the more it will be adopted, and the mass production will drive down costs even further.

At the same time the drop in the capacity factor of conventional power plants will cause their capacity factor to drop, their LCOE to skyrocket and they will become stranded assets that must be written off.

Thus solar, wind plus storage will dominate the energy sector and conventional power will no longer be a sustainable business model. And the excess renewables that will be necessary to maintain reliability, when not needed, will be used to generate green hydrogen to replace fossil fuels, including for transportation.

It’s a huge change coming. To replace the 6,630,136,986 kWh’s the US generates daily from fossil fuels we will need about 7,959,348,123 solar panels. Revenue from panel sales would be $5,436,234,767,880, another $937,500,000,000 in Storage batteries plus $242,000,000,000 annually in generation charges a $0.10 a kWh. This is just for US fossil fuel replacement for energy generation. Replacing Auto Fuels will take about 5-6 times that, plus batteries. Now multiply all that for the whole planet. >>

2021-03-09 Solar Is The Future – Elon Musk

Elon Musk talks about the power of sunlight and the size of a solar array that could power the US. He said that nuclear power plants have an exclusion zone of a square kilometer. If that was covered in solar panels, the solar array could put out more power than the nuclear power plant.

He said the Sun shines about a kilowatt per square meter. There are a million square meters in a square kilometer. So there is a million kilowatts or 1 gigawatt of sunlight per square kilometer.

But he forgot to take into account a few things. Solar arrays are about 20% efficient. And the surface is not covered 100% with panels. And the Earth gets less than 1000 watts per square meter the farther the distance it is from the equator. So I would reduce that from 1 gigawatt to 100 megawatts per square kilometer.

But he is right that it could be done by taking some land that is not being used for much of anything and putting many square kilometers of solar arrays all over. This will replace the fossil fuel power plants. And hopefully we will do this along with wind power in the very near future.

2021-03-08 Chernobyl Almost Killed Inna Braverman

This 10 min. YouTube video is about wave powered generators. But later they interview Inna Braverman who said she was born in Ukraine a few days before Chernobyl exploded and she almost died, but her mother resuscitated her.

I hear the apologists for nuclear power constantly reiterate the claim that nuclear power is safe and that “Only xx people died from Chernobyl.” Where xx is a two digit number. Their claim doesn’t account for those like Inna who almost died. Who were made so ill they almost died. Who are young but may get cancer later in life due to the effects of nuclear power.

Their claim that nuclear power is the answer to ending fossil fuel use. The answer is renewables and nuclear power is not renewable. Renewables plus storage is the answer, they are not as expensive as nuclear power. The people should be informed that nuclear fuel is subsidized by the government at taxpayer expense.

But the paving blocks are used where fire is not a big problem. And it puts a growing environmental problem to good use, solving two problems at once.
