Last year I saw an ad on Facebook for 100 USPS Xmas ‘forever’ postage stamps (normally cost 58 cents each) for $39.90. I needed Xmas stamps and yes, I know that the USPS doesn’t sell stamps at discount, but I wanted to take the risk and see if they were selling counterfeit stamps. So I bought a pack of 100 from foreverhut dot com. The seller was Hong Kong Manfan Trading Co. Ltd. When I got them more than a week later, there were only 40 stamps in the package. So they ripped me off for a dollar a stamp. I reported it to the US Postal Inspection Service.
Their website was shut down. But I am still seeing the same advertising on Facebook under different names. I report them as false advertising.
I also see advertising for four lithium ion batteries, each shown as 12 volt, 100 amp-hours, for under $100. These normally cost $400 or more apiece. This is also “too good to be true.”
The simple fact is that Facebook is doing almost nothing to police their advertising and many of their ads are fraudulent. There must be hundreds or thousands of people getting ripped off by these companies.
