2021-05-07 LAVO 30 Year Hydrogen Fuel Cell System
This short story gives the price of a Lavo green hydrogen fuel cell system as AU$35,000, I’m assuming it’s Australian dollars. It says the system is good for 30 years.

Such a system is already commercially available from a German start up called HPS from Berlin. The system is called PICEA. It uses solar panels to generate electricity and electrolysis to store that energy in form of H2 during summer. During winter the system uses a fuel cell to convert H2 back to electricity. Downsides are poor efficiency over a whole cylce (summer->winter) and the price you’ll need to pay ranging from 60k€ to 90k€ depending on the size of the H2 tanks. >>

This article is from 2016 but it talks about Carbon Capture And Storage in Iceland where it is turned into stone in basalt rock deep underground. Towards the end it talks about CCS in general. It’s very important because if the CO2 is not captured, the costs of adapting to greater climate change will greatly increase.

2021-05-06 Thwaites ‘Doomsday Glacier’ Melting Faster
The article calls it the canary in the coalmine. But this Thwaites is bigger than the UK and the size of Florida. If it breaks off and melts it could raise sea levels by 65 cm or 25 inches.
With other melting ice such as Greenland, the sea level could rise by as much as 7 to 10 meters, or 24 to 33 feet in the next decades.
2021-05-06 Tax To Reduce Meat Consumption
This Guardian article talks about reducing meat consumption and brings up the subject of taxing meat to reduce consumption. The article says that:

I disagree. The higher cost of meats does not force the low-income household to pay more because the household has alternative foods to eat. The household can eat a meat-free healthy diet. Or they can eat meat substitutes such as soy burgers. By taxing meats it would level the playing field so that meat substitutes, which tend to be more expensive, would be more affordable to consumers.
But the governments fail to use the whole taxation tool. Taxing meats achieves the goal I explained above. But what taxing authorities fail to do is incentivize the progress to goals. The goal should be to subsidize by paying the tax to the business to equalize the cost of the product to be incentivized.
Here is an example. The original product costs a dollar. The substitute costs $1.50. The original should have a $.25 tax to bring its cost up to $1.25. The substitute should be subsidized $.25 to bring its cost down to $1.25, the same as the original. The tax and subsidy would be phased out over time until both are eliminated.

Stop being a shill for the nuclear power industry. In the West the new nuclear power construction industry is no longer able to compete with renewables plus storage on a cost pre kWh basis. That’s what utilities use to make decisions on what to purchase for the grids. Utilities don’t give a damn about how much of anything fits on a football field to any depth.
