The Energy Storage Systems makes a flow battery that is rated at 50 kW and 400 kWh. The battery uses non-toxic Iron and Water. The battery has no capacity degradation over its lifetime – it puts out the same amount of power. This YouTube video explains more.
2020-10-01 Renewables Don’t Need Baseload Power
This 4.7 min. TED Talk Youtube video dispels the myth that solar and wind can’t do the job without “base load” power. Amory Lovins is with the US NREL, and is an authority on this subject.
He also states that renewables are less expensive than fossil or nuclear power.
2020-09-30 Fuel Cells Pro’s And Cons; Nat’l Fuel Cell Day
From my comments to YouTube video Matt Ferrell.
I think you missed something. The fuel cell is not limited in range, like a battery is. The fuel cell can have greater range without increasing its size. Just add a bigger fuel tank. The fuel cell vehicles can be fueled in a few minutes, not a half hour or more for a battery electric vehicle. This is very important for heavy commercial vehicles which have to be on the road or else lose money, and which could take hours to recharge.
One other thing that I’d like to know. Batteries have a limit on the charge/discharge cycles. Do fuel cells have a limitation on their lifetime? As Tesla has shown, batteries have made progress by research and development. Will fuel cell technology also be improved by R & D?
Thank you for the balanced, informed viewpoints.

2020-09-30 Has The World Started To Take Climate Change Seriously?
For the sake of the world, everyone must take climate change seriously. The future of the world depends on it.

It’s very important that China is totally committed to end climate change.
2020-09-30 Iowa’s Damaged Nuclear Plant Shut Down, To Be Replaced By Wind
The derecho windstorm caused damage to Iowa’s Duane Arnold nuclear power plant, shutting it down prematurely.
Quote from local newspaper article.

Cheaper sources of energy
Officials for both Alliant and NextEra said the existence of cheaper forms of energy prompted the decision to close Duane Arnold.
Alliant spokesman Justin Foss said the market value of those other sources — primarily renewables such as Iowa’s growing wind portfolio — have dropped below the cost of nuclear generation.
“In our review of the cost for the energy that comes from that facility versus what you can buy it for and generate it for out in the market right now, it will save customers money by not getting it from that facility,” Foss told The Gazette.

2020-09-29 CoVID19 & Interferon ++ 1st Presidential Debate
Possible reasons why SARS-CoV2 affects some patients so greatly. Interferon.
*******************************
I’m watching the first Presidential Debate and the two are arguing about so much off-topic stuff it’s hard to follow the debate. The tough part is that Biden could shut down Trump’s arguments if he kew more about the background of Trump’s claims. Trump calls Biden a 47 year do-nothing, meaning all the time Biden has been in government, he hasn’t done anything. That’s obviously not true.
Trump drifts off topic and starts attacking Biden for something entirely different than the topic. Trump said, “I’ve done more in 47 months than you [Biden] have done in 47 years.”
Trump said, “When the stock market goes up, that means jobs.” Right now the stock market is up and we have the highest unemployment in decades.
Moderator Chris Wallace asked Trump to condemn the white supremacists. He started saying how bad the “radical left Antifa” is. He said, “Proud boys, stand down and stand by.” Trump just refuses to straight out condemn the white supremacists who have been labeled by the FBI as domestic terrorists. He just repeats that antifas are bad group of people. But there is no antifa organization, it’s just a name given to those who are against white supremacists.
An article about the debate.

2020-09-28 Big Marine Engine Is Dual Fuel, Diesel Or Hydrogen
It’s amazing how there are plans for the near future for dual fuel engines that can use diesel or hydrogen. These engines can be used for railroads or marine, or for generating electricity. The 1 MW engine is equivalent to about 1350 HP.
Here is a quote from this article:
>>
At a press event, BeHydro, a joint venture between medium-speed engine producer ABC and shipping line CMB, announced the commercial launch of dual-fuel BeHydro engines for marine, rail and power generation applications.
Over the past three years, BeHydro has developed, produced and tested a prototype hydrogen-diesel engine with a capacity of 1 MW. With the launch of the engine, the JV expects to scale up this technology to produce engines of up to 10 MW. <<
2020-09-28 Hydrogen Tug Boats On Danube R.
This is amazing and very good news. A huge $6.7 Billion, 2 GW off-grid wind generating and hydrogen generating facility will be built in Europe.
2020-09-28 NASA: Arctic Warming, Ice Melting, Lightning Causing Wildfires
This is a 5.2 minute NASA YouTube video about warming in the Arctic causing the smallest summer ice pack. The ground in Siberia has thawed and many wildfires burning caused by lightning.
This is real. It’s happening right now. This is from NASA scientists, not some climate change extremists. Your future is disappearing right in front of your eyes.
2020-09-28 Tesla, Sonnen, And Other Home Battery Systems
Matt Ferrell has the text to his YouTube video about the Tesla Powerwall, Sonnen, etc. and a link to the video. The Tesla Powerwall and others cost about $10,000 installed. The systems may allow you to run your home from the battery when there is a power outage on the grid. Solar PV panels will charge up the batteries when the sun is shining. The text gives some of the specifications for the various brands.
