2020-02-29 Volume Control Pot Repair Help

I found that if I clean the volume control and it’s still intermittent, it helps if I connect a resistor from the center pin of the volume control to the ‘cold’ or common or ground end. The resistance was about 10 percent of the value of the pot. Say it’s a 5k pot, the resistor

2020-02-28 CoViD19 Novel Corona Virus

The problem with CoViD19 isn’t the ARDS (acute respiratory disease syndrome), it’s the inability of the health care system to respond to an overwhelming number of cases. It’s treatable *if* there are enough staff, facilities, equipment and supplies to treat every patient. You had better hope you catch it and get adequate treatment before the

2020-02-21

I found that 100 uH was a good all around value for these solar garden light circuits. But at the time I made these around 2009 the 5252 4 legged chip was uncommon and almost all the garden lights used 2 discrete transistors. I don’t know why they started using the 4 legged 5252 –

2020-02-19 Nobility 15 transistor Radio Repair

2020 Feb 18 – Nobility 15 transistors OTL S/N (?J)29549 I replaced the electrolytic capacitors. The spkr buzzed when I touched the volume control. Nothing from the detector (transistor). It’s unusual. I pulled and tested some IF parts including one of the transistors, no problems found – transistor tested good. I called it a night.

2020-02-17 I Bid On A Boy’s Radio, Lost

From FB group Vintage Transistor Radios Last week I bid on a boy’s radio, $26 which lasted up until near the end. But as usual I was outbid at the last minute. I think the demand exceeds the supply, and the prices go up too high. Looks like I’ll be getting one that no one

2020-02-14 Zenith Royal 400 S/N Z551549 Replaced Capacitors, Driver Transformer

Zenith Royal 400 s/n Z551549 I soldered broken orange wire to battery holder. Replaced all four electrolytic capacitors. Silent speaker and nothing from earphone jack. I checked the voltage at the collector of the driver transistor, it was zero. One pin of the driver transformer primary measures 5.8 V, the other pin measured 0. Checked,

LED Indoor Motion Sensing Lights – Decrease On Time

I bought two of these motion sensing LED lights for my hallway. They have a rechargeable cell that is charged through a micro USB port. To see one inside watch big Clive’s YouTube video – the ebay link to buy them is in his description. The charge lasts for more than a week with frequent

From FB group electronics hobbyists Over the holidays I installed two solar 60 LED lights I bought on eBay. They stopped working just a few weeks after. I finally got up on the ladder and took them down to see why they died. Well, spit! The solar panel is plugged into the jack on the
