I hope not. But the market got hit hard last week. TSLA went down a lot but still higher than earlier. I’m bullish on Tesla. The company is much more than ‘just a car company.’

This graph is for thevwestern US, I think it said 80 million population. The Misoperations is explained in the text. I noticed that most of the problems seem to be with microprocessors. That must mean there are bugs in the systems. Maybe hardware? Or if the hardware is redundant, then probably software?

New – Today, Trump urged N. Carolina voters to vote twice. That is illegal and the N.C. authority put out a letter stating that was illegal. I think Trump should be held accountable for urging people to commit a felony. That’s just stupid and inexcusable for a president.
More in the news about the Trump organization still trying to block the Manhattan DA from getting hold of the tax records. Cohen said Trump inflated the values of properties to get loans, and deflated their value to lower the property taxes. When Trump is no longer president, “We can just hear the gates of the jail clanking shut behind him.”

There is a lot of concern for safety when DGs (distributed generators) are connected to the power grid. The grid operators must ensure that none of the DGs feed back into the grid when the grid generator is not operating. They go through several scenarios in this article.
From what I see the DG must be stopped from feeding upstream during a fault – normally the DG only feeds downstream to the loads. This assumes that the connection of the DG and grid AC is bidirectional – the DG power can go both downstream to the load and upstream to the main AC. This is typical of a transformer: it works both ways.
The telecom industry has been doing high power backup for much more than a century. They use 48VDC but there is no reason that the voltage can’t be higher. They use batteries and generator backup but the batteries don’t have to be used and the generator can be replaced with with solar or wind power. I assume that an island in a DG grid would use solar, wind or similar for its power.
The industry offers UPSes (uninterruptible power supplies) in sizes up to thousands of watts. There are two types: one has the battery and inverter in standby mode until the grid power is interrupted when they take over. The other UPS changes the grid AC to DC to charge the battery and the inverter is always connected to the battery and supplies all of the downstream power all the time.
Since converting the grid power from AC to DC is a one way action, there is no concern for the island power to go back into the grid. The power from the solar array is already DC so it can be connected through a one way rectifier to prevent the grid power from going into the array. The two DC sources can then be inverted to AC for use downstream. When the solar power is not enough, the grid power supplies downstream. This does not have any backup batteries; it just allows the solar to replace grid power during the daytime. But both the grid and solar power can be used to charge batteries, which then can be used to power the inverter for power 24/7 and there is no concern for the solar power going back into the grid.
This is essentially a Wire OR circuit. The grid power, the solar power OR both supply downstream, where they are inverted back to AC.
So what else is new. At least they’re being caught quickly and shut down.
The ARK Invest website explains this well, and Cathie Wood, the chief investor, explains it in her YouTube video. Cathie is a believer that Tesla is undervalued.

This 28 minute YouTube podcast is a great way to understand how Musk sees the world and his company’s place in it. He even talks a bit about Bitcoin at the end (no, he’s not going to). There is very little about the cars themselves — these interviewers are investors so they are interested in more company information.
This article is from 2016 and things have changed even more. The California duck curve that can be seen in the daily load at caiso.com shows how utility scale solar is generating so much power during the day that the rest of the power plants have to generate less and less. Then as the sunlight drops in the afternoon there is a sharp increase in the load and a lot more power generation has to be brought online to make up for the drop in solar. This is called the duck curve. It’s actually two curves; one curve upward from the load and one curve downward from solar.
At the time of the article’s writing there was very little battery storage on California’s grid. There was some hydro and pumped hydro, but the main part of the quick ramp-up in generation was done by gas turbine peaker plants. Today in 2020 there have been several utility scale battery storage systems that have been brought online. These are helping to even out the peaks in the demand.
This article explains why there have been rolling blackouts. California has been relying on gas peaker plants when it should be building more battery storage to do the ‘peak shaving’. The fossil fuels have to be eliminated ASAP.
