2021-01-13 Big Changes Needed, Fast

My FB reply

Karl Thidemann
I asked you a question. The regenerative grazing you promote will benefit the land in the same way that hundreds of millions of bison did before they were nearly exterminated by hunters.

How long will it take to regenerate the land? Regenerating the land will be pointless if it takes too long. The article of this original post says the following:
Quote << “Our main point is that once you realise the scale and imminence of the problem, it becomes clear that we need much more than individual actions like using less plastic, eating less meat, or flying less. Our point is that we need big systematic changes and fast,” Professor Daniel Blumstein from the University of California Los Angeles, who helped write the paper, told the Guardian. >>

I believe your agenda is not in the best interests of the world and would take too long to make the “big systematic changes” that they say are necessary. Reforestation on a large scale is still needed for, as you said, land where a forest will grow.

Regenerative grazing is going to benefit the land. But what else will it benefit? There is still the ruminant belching methane issue.

[Added Jan 13] You treat the regenerative grazing as the answer to all of the climate change problems. Until you show you have more than this, others are going to assume your sole agenda is promoting the raising of cattle. You should do more and better.

I listened to one podcast that said methane had a shorter lifetime in the atmosphere. But CO2 is also removed from the atmosphere by the oceans and as you’ve pointed out, by the soil and its biome(?).

But you still haven’t told us any timeline. The quote I gave explicitly said that mitigation must be done on a large scale and quickly. If it took decades to deplete the soil, how long will it take to restore it?

The longer that climate change goes on, the more the world will have to adapt and the costs will be much, much greater. Sometimes I feel that it’s futile and there is a very bleak future. What a shame because I’ll be dead and the world will be going to hell because there are so many deniers and charlatans who have ruined the future of humanity for short term profits.

2021-01-12 Trump Said”It Was Totally Appropriate”

The Congress is getting more onboard with impeaching Trump a second time. Some Republicans – Liz Cheney for one – are saying they believe what Trump said was incitement to insurrection and will vote for impeachment. The Democrats may have enough votes in the Senate to convict.

Trump spoke at the southern border and said that what he said was analyzed and “was totally appropriate”, which is totally opposite what the public believe. He projected defiance, blamed others for his actions. He is still spreading disinformation, that Antifas caused it. He still supports the actions of his followers.

Trump apparently is not cognizant that what he is doing is interfering with the legislative branch of the U.S. Government. This is contrary to the separation of powers. The more than 60 lawsuits that were filed by Trumpsters have been rejected by the courts, so he was forced into doing this interference in the legislative branch of the government in order to change the election results in his favor.

Rep. Tom Reed (R) NY opposes impeachment. He wants to “lower the temperature” in America “and do not encourage any type of violence.” I agree that “lowering the temperature” is a good idea but Trump keeps on raising the temperature and forcing the rest of the country to put out the fire.

What is so bizarre is that Trump is incapable or unwilling to admit that what he said was inappropriate or wrong. He refuses to show any contrition or apologize. This mental flaw is what has been getting him into trouble and will be his undoing again. He blames others – the newsmedia for example – for what he has done himself.

Here is a link to the House’s Article of Impeachment of Trump:

https://www.politifact.com/article/2021/jan/13/read-read-house-article-impeachment-against-donald/

Trump said about the impeachment “I think it’s causing tremendous danger to our country and tremendous anger…” But he totally fails to acknowledge that the sole reason for this “danger and anger” has been his actions.

My thoughts: Trump is like the Moon, which is the brightest object in the sky, but only when it’s dark. Darkness makes it the brightest. Trump will no longer be the brightest when the truth takes the darkness away.

2021-01-12 CoVID19 Vaccinations

The newsmedia are saying that in order to reach herd immunity by May, we must vaccinate 1.8 million every day. But we’re now vaccinating only 700 thousand. The CDC wants to give everyone 65 and older vaccinations. Also all 20 million doses distributed must be used for first vaccinations; none should be held back for the second dose.

“Operation Warp Speed” seems to be moving very slowly. CBS Evening News said that only a quarter of the vaccines received have been injected into people. PBS Newshour said “No state has vaccinated more than 6 percent of its population” (As of this date).

Here in Orange County, Disneyland will be the first site of a mass vaccination. Links to the OC CoVID19 website are at the end.

2021-01-11 Trump Silenced By Social Media

Trump’s Twitter account was suspended at least until after the inauguration. Facebook and Instagram shut him off, too. Amazon, Apple, Google and others blocked Parler, a social media which allows radicals to post, and bills itself as Twitter without rules.

It’s so disappointing to see the amount of turmoil that this desperate excuse of a president has caused. It will be a relief to get rid of him in 9 days. Let’s hope that the legal system and government will prevent him from running for public office in the future.

2021-01-10 Trump To GA Investigator: Find The Fraud

It has come to light that Trump called a Georgia elections investigator and asked him to find the fraud. This could be another reason for impeachment. That’s interfering in an election.

2021-01-10 Methane From Cows

From FB reply

<< Chuck Beauchesne
Cows expelling methane is not the biggest part of the problem. The article I linked to clearly states that we should eat less meat or no meat. What part of this don’t you understand? You speak of my “agenda”, what the hell is your agenda? Are you a shill for the meat and dairy products industries? You want to save yourselves while the whole world goes to hell? That’s stupid. >>

There is one dairy farm that puts all of the cow dung into a digester and captures the methane generated from it, and uses this biogas to power generators which supply the farm and some neighbors with electricity. This paid for itself quickly.

The Flex Fuel laws should be removed. They waste farmland and crops which could be used to grow food instead.

2021-01-10 Reality Unhinged

My FB comment

Paul Holmes
The technique you use is identical to Trump’s, which is “The best defense is to put up an offense of lies, lies, lies. And blindly ignore the facts.” Your reality is an alternate world of hate, unhinged from reality.

Ugh. I have to learn to just not care anymore. I can’t deal with the idea that otherwise seemingly reasonable people can believe that all of these judges are part of some conspiracy against Trump. And I’m sick of people acting like it’s mean or discriminatory to point out FACTS like this one.

2021-01-09 FERC To Create Office Of Public Participation

The most disappointing thing is that FERC was supposed to create this office of public participation back in 1978, but pushback from the utilities prevented financing it. So all these years the people have had almost no voice on what’s going on. No wonder there have been pipeline protests. That’s outright criminal.

2021-01-08 Geomechanical Pumped Hydro Storage

This is a new word for a new pumped hydro storage system I just read about. In the following article it looks like one of the reservoirs in the traditional pumped hydro system has been replaced by a well. The ‘hydro’ water is pumped under pressure into the well and then the pressurized well water is released to generate ‘hydroelectricity’. The advantages are that there is no second reservoir above ground, and this requires no difference of elevation in the reservoir.
