This article claims that it’s a net carbon sink. As population grows and there is less and less room for wasted resources, the choice must be made to stop eating meat.

That’s good to hear that AMP is a net carbon sink. The problem still is that you get 1/10 the nutrients from eating any type of meat. The rest goes to sustaining the animals. The population is predicted to grow past 9 billion, and if the predicted climate changes cause more desertification (there is already some), then there will not be enough food to feed the human population. Meat will have to be given up.

Furthermore the carbon capture and sequestration is going to have to be done by reforestation. This will further reduce the amount of land for food. And if the PPMs of CO2 is not reduced there will be no future of sustaining the human population. 60% by weight of mammals on earth is livestock. 36% are humans. Only 4% are the rest. The choice of reducing the demand for food has to be made — either humans or livestock. And you can be certain that humans are not going to draw straws and reduce themselves.

You may be a shill for the meat and dairy industries, or you may be another person concerned about the future of this Earth. Whatever you are, you must face reality and make the right choice now or it will be too late and there will be no future.

Addendum: We are at a time when there is no chance of stopping growth and slowly reducing demands on resources. We are at the razor sharp cutting edge of a disaster that will cut through the civilizations and lay waste to the human population. Mass starvation will occur if the climate changes cause desertification and loss of arable land due to rise in sea level. There is no room for experimenting on what or where to send millions of climate refugees. There has already been this problem in Syria. It’s going to spread further. >>

Absolutely. The “heal this land” you said also requires reforestation: billions of trees must be planted, but where? The land which is capable of supporting forest. That includes farm land that was originally forest. This obviously reduces the amount of available farm land. We’ve got to do more sooner or we will be ‘climate refugees’ and have food insecurity AKA starvation. >>

I don’t believe that’s true. Humans are destroying the environment in the name of food, and one of the most inefficient foods is livestock and dairy. It’s a matter of conflicts between a human population that is too much for the available resources and squeezing out the natural world to make room for human made food sources. Something must be done to correct this problem. The other issue that I said earlier is that there is the extremely urgent need to sequester carbon and the most forthright way is reforestation. If it is necessary to regenerate the soil before planting trees, then it will have to be done extremely fast, by artificial means if necessary. This could mean adding huge amounts of renewables to make this possible without the further use of fossil fuels. If the predictions that climate change will cause deforestation come true then it may be necessary to replenish the deforested lands.

The concepts Karl Thidemann brings up deal with existing issues and I believe that we have to look at issues in the long term. The world has to go past the reacting to problems and be proactive to mitigate future climate change. >>

I keep returning to a concept for why the GOP & Republicans are in a position they shouldn’t be in.

The democrats are (somewhat) willing to find out what issues are important to the voters, and make those issues a part of their platform. The Democrats are reacting to the will of the people and then trying to make the will happen through legislation.

The Republicans tell the people what they want to hear, whether it’s true or false. They get elected and pander to the wealthy, instead of trying to help the people who elected them. They still tell the voters what they’re doing is right, then do nothing, or not do what they told the voters. The amount of deception is exceedingly high.

The voters have to be convinced that they’re doing the right thing by voting red. They’re told that if they don’t vote red the world will suffer and their opponents are bad guys and the voters will suffer. Yet all the time the voters are being told they are having it great, whole the country is suffering because of the Republicans not doing what they said they would do. If the voters complain, the Republicans blame the problems on the “radical left-wing democrats” who won’t let the Republicans get things done in Congress.

Georgia’s senate runoff election Tuesday has a new democratic senator, the first ever black senator, Raphael Warnock. Kelly Loeffler refused to concede. The other senator seat is too close to call yet but it looks like Perdue, the incumbent may lose to Ossoff. This runoff election is so important because it will give the democrats control of the senate – the senate will be 50-50 with VP Kamala Harris’ vote deciding the outcome.

Late afternoon Jan 6 and CBS said Ossoff is ahead of Perdue by 30 thousand votes, so it looks like both senate seats are going to the democrats and this means the senate will be split fifty-fifty, and since Vice President Kamala Harris will make the deciding vote, the democrats will have control of congress. This two senator election in Georgia has cost more than $800 million, a huge amount of money for a senate race.

The reason why agriculture is so huge is because a huge amount of agriculture is devoted to growing feed for livestock. When you eat meat you are eating second hand plants. If people would eat a lot less meat, the Amazon rainforests that have been deforested and much of the land used for agriculture would be free to be used for reforestation and thus save the planet.

You see, it’s okay to speculate – wildly – about aliens on other worlds because those worlds are so far away that there’s no way we’re going to find out one way or the other. I could just as well say that there are no alien civilizations because there’s no way to prove that I’m wrong.

I still happen to believe there are so many goldilocks planets among the billions of stars in all the galaxies out there that it’s likely there are others like us. But it will always be a belief until humans can time travel. And that ain’t happening!

Many years ago I built this remote control extender. I had an old RCA TV that used an infrared remote control that was not digital, it put out unmodulated carrier waves of frequencies in the 34 to 40 kHz range. These are much different than the digital remote controls we have today, which are designed to demodulate pulses. So my remote control had to work with both digital from my VCR remote and unmodulated CW from the TV.

I built this circuit to be a simple analog amplifier of three stages, driving a class C Darlington output that’s connected as an emitter follower to drive both the IR LED and the red LED.

It works very well, but the idle current is more than a milliamp, which would soon use up a 9 volt battery. So what the circuit needs is to have a reduction of its idle current. The darlington LED driver stage is Class C and draws no current as long as it’s idle. The three low level amplifier stages must be on all the time so they’re the ones that have to be very low idle current. I plan to reduce the idle current to below 0.25 mA, maybe to 100 microamps.

The first two stages need only 3 to 5 volts so the 2.2k dropping resistor in the supply line can be increased to 10k or more. After that, the Q3 collector load resistor could be increased from 10k to 22k or more, maybe up to 100k. The base bias resistor will have to be increased from 560k to a few megohms.
