I used to do a shenanigan when we had a Cisco IP phone die. If the ‘factory reset’ didn’t cure the problem, with the help of the ladies, I would give a ‘new’ phone to the client. I would make sure the phone, especially the handset, was cleaned up well. Sometimes I had to use a push pin to remove dirt from the holes in the earpiece, etc. I crimped on new modular plugs to the coiled cord, and checked out the set before deploying it. Then we kept a few spare boxes so I boxed it up so it looked like new before taking it to the workstation. The impression that the people had received a new phone helped with customer satisfaction. Does that make me like a used car dealer?? 😜😏

I’ve watched a lot of YouTube videos totally unrelated to music, and I hear the instrumental version of this over and over, but until now I was never able to find out about it. I had the earworm, I just recorded it and played it while on the road. I found out that since he purposely didn’t copyright it, there were scores or hundreds of similar derivative tunes. I backtracked and finally came across these other artists, and I finally caught up with this guy, Alan Walker. This one song, “Faded” has over 1.8 Billion (with a B! ) views on YouTube alone! Looks like hundreds of millions of others are loving his music! You can search for his name on YouTube and find his and other artists.

Yeah, the 2N3904 is E B C, THE ‘945 is E C B. Watch out the leads don’t touch and short. 😝

I have the Moto HEP catalogs, if you need to find out what it’s equivalent to.

When National Semiconductor came out with their catalogs they gave the ‘process’ that a certain transistor was selected from. So I could see that the 2N4124 was from the same process as the 2N3904. So I knew that the 2N3904 was a higher voltage version of a 2N4124.

Regenerative / reflex designs are not as stable as superheterodyne radios. One problem is the design depends on factors that are not predictable such as gain and feedback, which are not linear. The regenerative reflex depends on the circuit being on the verge of oscillation, which is not linear.

I’m not saying that the circuit cannot be stable. But the manufacturers built thousands of them with parts that were made especially for the circuit. If you were to do the same thing, you would get good results. But I assume that the average hobbyist doesn’t have the ability to do this.

I have built several of the regenerative receivers and I’ve had poor results with all of them.

I see from the schematic that this is a reflex regen. They did something else that is very seldom seen, the volume control acts not as a normal variable voltage divider, but instead as a variable shunt load across the secondary of the driver transformer. This is to provide a load at audio frequencies to the reflex stage. It’s not a good design because the secondary of the driver transformer is nearly shorted at low volume levels.

Yeah, people don’t realize that the newspapers worked 24 hours, and all the delivery took place at night and early morning.

There were neighbors a few houses down that never seemed to have jobs, I think their last name was Humberger. I found out that the L.B. Press Telegram would dump a a big stake bed truck full of bundles of papers on their front lawn in the wee hours of the morning. Then they would go to work and fold and deliver cars full of papers all over town for the paper boys to deliver. Everything was done and delivered by dawn, so no one knew anything had even happened. 😮👍

I bought a kit for a digital die (one die of a pair of dice). I assembled it and then I rolled the die many times and wrote down the values to see if it was random. I was shocked! It was loaded! It was operating correctly but it was cheating!

It didn’t have a bypass capacitor across the battery. Once I added the bypass capacitor, it was no longer loaded. After many rolls the numbers came up random. So don’t believe that just because a circuit seems to work okay without one, that it will work okay with all batteries and under all conditions.

Long ago I calculated that the number of solar panels to populate such a large area would be in the billions. But saying it would have to be the size of Alberta is misleading because the solar *system* would have to be distributed around the world to have a majority of the panels in the sunlight. And these would have to be interconnected with a massive transmission system – that’s another hidden cost. So the home PV systems distributed all over begin to look much more attractive.

Before Reagan when there still were ‘mental hospitals’, the 6th floor of SATCH (now Western Global Medical Center on Tustin Ave), had keys on the elevator buttons. They didn’t ‘force’ mental patients into staying, a patient could leave by signing out. Most stayed.

I’m not sure I understand why you have a complete absence of compassion for human beings who have come to the end of their rope and can’t hang on anymore. In my mind that’s an extremely jaundiced view of life. After Reagan’s closures, the jails ended up as warehouses for the mentally Ill. That contributed to the overcrowding, so the courts in their questionable wisdom demanded a cutback in the jail populations. Just as with the S.A. River homeless, the courts kicked the crazies out of the jails and now we all have to deal with them on the streets. That was just throwing the burden on all of the people, instead of limiting the burden’s effect by warehousing them.

But then I don’t have to be too concerned. The watch dogs keep us alert to strangers, and there are those with bad attitudes, such as spouses of LEOs, who have zero compassion and make the homeless lives miserable.. 😕😏
