2020-11-04 Trump Election Lawsuits, Election Updates <>

It’s the evening news time the day after the election. The Trumpsters are whining about the election counting is unfair. They are demanding a recount in Wisconsin and they’re trying to get the vote counting halted in Michigan because the Biden votes are gaining on Trump’s initial lead. The votes that are left to be counted are from the major metro areas which are heavily Democratic and Biden’s count is expected to surpass Trump’s.

Think about this. The politicos, especially the Republicans, gerrymandered the districts so that all the Democrats are forced into as few districts as possible. Especially in the urban ghettos.

The vote counter dumps a ballot box from one of these districts onto the table and what happens? Most of them are from Democrats! The damned Republicans are the ones causing the Democratic concentrations! And then they’re the ones who whine about it! 😠😠😠

Trump is kicking and screaming about winning the election. He said, “As far as I’m concerned we already have won.” The president’s tweets are questioning the counts of some states. Twitter has labeled them as not verifiable. Other countries are dismayed at Trump’s actions.

What makes me wonder is how long will it take and what must be done to correct the helluva mess that the Cheeto in Chief has made of the federal government. How many executive orders will Biden have to undo to get things back to normal?

Really!

Update Nov. 5 – it’s 4 PM and the ballots still haven’t all been counted in the important “swing states”. They say the ballot counting may be finished by Friday.

Meanwhile, 2 of the lawsuits Trumpsters filed have been thrown out by judges.

Trump is just now giving a news conference and he is claiming he has won if the legal votes are counted. He implies that the votes that came in after the election day were illegal. This is a false claim. As the votes that came in late are counted, Biden is gaining on Trump’s lead in PA(?). Trump is claiming “suppression” in the states that swung from Trump leading to Biden, Michigan and Wisconsin(?).

Nevada was supposed to be finished counting by this morning. Still hasn’t given an official count. The 6 electoral votes of Nevada would give the Biden either 269 or 270 votes.

Update Nov. 5, 10 PM – The other media are criticizing Anderson Cooper for comparing Trump to an obese turtle, but that’s not as bad as Trump being very disrespectful of the newsmedia multiple times over the last four years. I believe Trump learned his disrespect for anyone who disagrees with him from his bulldog lawyer, Roy Cohn. Cohn would sue anyone who Trump disliked. Trump called the newsmedia “the enemy of the people.”

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/aug/03/trump-enemy-of-the-people-meaning-history

The AP has called the election for Biden. Biden is ahead in Arizona and Nevada and they’re about finished counting. Tomorrow, Friday, Pennsylvania will give their final count.

It’s Friday, Nov. 6, at 1 PM and the states of Nevada, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Georgia and N. Carolina still haven’t finished counting. It is most likely that other states haven’t finished, but thay are all decisively one way or the other, so no further changes will be happening. It is this group of swing states that are the deciding factors. As time goes on, Biden has overtaken Trump in all but N. Carolina. Arizona alone will put Biden over 270 electoral votes. Trump has close to zero chance of changing the outcomes of any of these states. It’s just a matter of time to get the official word from the states that the vote counting is finished.

6 PM PST, 9 PM EST, the vote count at the Pennsylvania Sec’y of the commonwealth shows Biden has over 20 thousand votes more than Trump.

https://www.electionreturns.pa.gov/

9 PM PST Nov 6 – the Georgia count is in Biden’s favor but the lead is so small that they expect to have a recount. It may be a week before that is complete.

Trump still has the lead in N. Carolina. But he needs three other states to reach 270. But Biden is ahead in all those states. If Pennsylvania or Arizona finish the vote count, the votes would put Biden over 270 electoral votes.

6 AM, morning of Nov 7. No change overnite, still counting. But Biden’s leads are well establisher in all except N. Carolina. Georgia is hoping Biden’s slim lead will grow to more so that it will not be necessary to do a recount, which will save a lot of time delay.

The Republicans are whining about how the early counts were in Trump’s favor, but the later mail-in votes were mysteriously more for Biden. Well, it was the Republicans’ fault! One Republican state legislature preventer mail-in ballots from being counted before election day. That has caused delays in counting. Then Trump falsely claimed mail-in votes were fraudulent which caused his voters to vote in-person. But many unafraid Democrats used mail-in ballots. As they are counted, Biden overcame Trump’s early lead and is now ahead. So the Republicans are whining about the problems which they caused!!

Update 9 AM Nov 7 – CNN has said Biden has won Pennsylvania and wins the election. Pennsylvania, the Keystone State, gives Biden 273 electoral votes.

2020-11-04 The Life And Death Of A Rose Bush

It’s the morning after the elections and there are still a lot of races too close to call. Newsmedia are milking the event for as much as they can, but you can’t hurry up the system. Remember that the real (electoral) votes don’t come until December.

Years ago I watched an episode on PBS about the secret lives of plants. They said that plants can communicate in ways we are just discovering. Through their roots for one example. It’s interesting, but I was surprised recently by some experiences of my own.

There are white rose bushes in my garden, apparently they’ve been there a long time. In the past year two of them died. I especially noticed the last one – it seemed okay then the leaves all turned brown and it was dead in a week. Both of the rose bushes had a seedling grow next to them, from a rose hip or fruit – whatever it’s called. They both died after the seedlings had grown up a foot or so. It was like the old timers knew that they had junior growing beside them and they said to themselves, it’s time to let the younger generation take my place, and suddenly they gave up and stopped living. Just like that! I now believe there is truth to the ideas that the secret lives of plants put forth. Mother Nature has many secrets that we are still not fully aware of.

2020-11-03 Texas Drive-thru Voting Sued By Republicans

It’s Nov. 3, Election day. The news talked about how the Texas Repub’s are going to court the try to stop 127 thousand drive-thru votes from being counted. Apparently this is an attempt at voter suppression. The Texas State Supreme Court threw out the case because the Repub’s didn’t have the right. The Repub’s then took the suit to the Federal court. The Democracy Now! Said a guy named Steven Hotze was one plaintiff in the suit. This guy is a real troublemaker and has been involved with frivolous lawsuits in the past.

2020-11-02 Signal Tracer Or Audio Amp From An Old AM Radio

Its not hard to make a signal tracer from an old AM radio. You need 60 mm of red and black flexible twisted pair, a 0.22 uF, 100V capacitor, a small black alligator clip, a 50 mm length of shrink tubing that will fit over the following probe, and a thin 100 mm long piece of wood for the probe — this can be a skewer stick used for a shishkabob.

The signal tracer uses the audio amplifier of a small radio. I disconnect the detector diode from the hot end of the volume control and connect two wires to the volume control. A black wire from the outer oin of the 3 pin volume control – this is common. The red pin goes to the hot pin of the volume control – the end that makes noise when you touch it. The other end of the red wire goes through a 0.22 uF capacitor, the other end of the capacitor is the probe.

2020-10-30 Biden MUST Win — Trump MUST Lose.

With just a few days from the day of the election, there is a lot of speculation in the news about who will win. My educated guesstimate is that Biden will take the electoral votes by a large margin.

Trump was a ‘useful idiot’ for the Russians in 2016. Trump was useful to the Russians for preventing Hillary from getting elected. Now that the Russians’ meddling in the 2016 election is well known, they can’t do that again. Trump has lost his Russian helpers. He has lost his usefulness — Hillary isn’t his opponent now. This will make a big difference in this election.

The Biden administration will have a lot of work to do to correct all the messes that Trump has made of the US government. That will take quite a while. The dark days of Trump are soon to end and this country can come back to some sense of normalcy.

“The people are looking for a We president; Donald Trump is a Me president.”

2020-10-30 Voter Dilution By Gerrymandering

My comment from FB about this politifact

https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2020/oct/29/robyn-vining/yes-because-gerrymandering-only-one-republican-ass/

Rich Doyon
And I suppose you think it’s fair to put all the best players on one team so that that team always wins.

The gerrymandering, no matter which side is doing it, is unfair. It’s putting all the team members who are on one side (which, by the way, has a greater number) into a smaller, more concentrated area so that the other side can outvote the greater numbered opponents in a majority of districts. This is known as tilting the playing field. It’s deliberately cheating the system. This is why it is said, “The system is broken because it it fixed.” It’s fixed in favor of one side and against the other. And what is worse, the winning team is doing it by suppression of certain factions by dilution of those factions’ votes.

What we need:
Integrity – Transparency – Accountability.
We’re getting NONE of those from the winning team.

Addendum:

It’s the most evil kind of political posturing when in order to win, the strategy must be to game the system by ignoring the rules and cheating. The reason why we have a democracy with the system of equal representation is so that the people are all supposed to be represented equally. The system of representation is not meant to overrepresent one smaller faction and underrepresent a larger faction.

The only ‘less unredeeming’ factor is that in order for the smaller faction to dilute the vote is they have to spread their voters thinner over a wider area. This weakens their influence in all areas. It makes it easier for their opponents. But since the gerrymandering has pushed their opponents into smaller areas, their opponents have no chance to dominate.

There should be a way to undo the unfairness of gerrymandering. Perhaps one way to suppress gerrymandering is to require that each MSA (metropolitan statistical area) have the parts of representative districts in their MSA all grouped into that one MSA. Then each voter would be randomly assigned a subset of those representatives to vote for. But I think about this and I foresee that this would be challenged on how the assignments are randomized. So I guess it’s not a good idea.

2020-10-29 Freq Counter – Crystal Tester Mod For Low Frequencies

I got this frequency counter and crystal tester mainly for the frequency counter. Today I decided to test a few crystals, and was successful with ones above 10 MHz but not at 4 MHz. The two capacitors labeled C2 and C3 are the feedback to the crystal, and they were originally 22 pF. So I changed them both to 39 pF. Now the 4.0 MHz resonator from an old mouse works okay. But it won’t oscillate with a 455 kHz resonator. It’s good enough to test most xtals.

2020-10-28 Cities And Climate

I looked at a photo of the downtown of a city with all its many skyscrapers, and the thought occurred to me that this collection of tall buildings has a very high surface area to volume ratio(see note) and that this is the least effective at keeping the hot or cold climate out. Just to keep the skyscrapers livable requires a lot of insulation and a lot of HVAC.

My thoughts moved to how to remedy this. I thought about the space between two large buildings. This outside space could be enclosed to keep out the cold or hot weather. This would save both of the buildings some of the cost of keeping the rooms air conditioned. One disadvantage would be that all windows on those sides would lose the view they had. But some of the enclosed space could be used for growing plants year round, which would help the views. Some changes would have to be made. The structure would have to be self-supporting, so no additional weight will be put onto the two buildings. The structure could cover only part of the empty space between the two buildings. The space inside of the structure would not have to be used for human habitation. The structure’s outside walls would be insulated to keep out the weather outside. This would reduce the heat losses through the walls of the two buildings.

Some buildings are separated by an alley or small side street. The structure could be built over this alley, leaving a tunnel for passage of vehicles. Currently there is some concern about exhaust fumes from vehicles filling up the tunnel. But in the next 15 years, maybe sooner, most vehicles will no longer use fossil fuels, so the emissions from these new green vehicles will no longer be toxic.
