2021-01-06 Georgia Senate Runoff – Warnock 1st Black Senator, Ossoff Youngest Senator

Georgia’s senate runoff election Tuesday has a new democratic senator, the first ever black senator, Raphael Warnock. Kelly Loeffler refused to concede. The other senator seat is too close to call yet but it looks like Perdue, the incumbent may lose to Ossoff. This runoff election is so important because it will give the democrats control of the senate – the senate will be 50-50 with VP Kamala Harris’ vote deciding the outcome.

More to come later on Perdue and Ossoff.

Quote from article << In Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood, 37-year-old Kari Callaghan said she voted “all Democrat” on Tuesday, an experience that was new for her.

“I’ve always been Republican, but I’ve been pretty disgusted by Trump and just the way the Republicans are working,” she said. “I feel like for the Republican candidates to still stand there with Trump and campaign with Trump feels pretty rotten. This isn’t the conservative values that I grew up with.” >>

Late afternoon Jan 6 and CBS said Ossoff is ahead of Perdue by 30 thousand votes, so it looks like both senate seats are going to the democrats and this means the senate will be split fifty-fifty, and since Vice President Kamala Harris will make the deciding vote, the democrats will have control of congress. This two senator election in Georgia has cost more than $800 million, a huge amount of money for a senate race.
