The BMW X5 and Toyota Mirai, both hydrogen vehicles, consumers are not buying them. I believe that hydrogen is definitely in the future, but right now it’s not, for at least a decade.
The whole world must give up burning fossil fuels and releasing CO2 into the atmosphere. In the future, making hydrogen will no longer release CO2 into the atmosphere like it does now. Hopefully all hydrogen will be green, made by electrolysis. But the big oil and fossil fuels industries in the US have plans to build 14 blue hydrogen plants which make hydrogen from methane (same as they do now), but the CO2 will be captured and stored underground. What must happen ASAP is the cost of electricity must become so low that the green hydrogen will cost less than blue hydrogen, and force the blue hydrogen plants out of business.
