In 1966 I completed basic training and went to Ft. Monmouth, NJ for 10 months of Radar repair training. The last half of the course we got to work on the actual Radars in *that* barn-like building in the photo. I was on the graveyard shift. There were birds flying around up in the rafters in that bldg. I guess they were bothered by the noise and RFI from the equipment . Notice the waveguide coming out of the bldg and going into the base of the antenna. The power was so high that the waveguide had to be pressurized with dry air to keep it from arcing. The compressor and air dryer was broken so we fired up the Radar and we could hear the arcs zinging along inside of the waveguide!
