2026-05-31 How to properly tune the radio IFs for best sound quality

It is not a good idea to “peak” the IFs for maximum volume of a radio station. The radio should be aligned with a sweep generator connected to the oscilloscope. What you actually want is to tune the radio so the bandwidth looks flat topped with steep skirts. This gives your audio high quality. If you peak the IFs, you will sacrifice the higher audio frequencies from 4 to 8 kHz in order to get maximum volume. This might sound good for voice on the amateur band, it will not sound good on music on the AM broadcast band.

See this video about realigning the AM transistor radio.
