This 3 minute video shows how to connect a $2.00 USB to UART adapter to a serial port on some things like cameras, modems, etc. You need three short Dupont connector cables, green for ground and transmit and receive (crossover). Connect the adapter to the USB port on your PC.
Then in Linux open a terminal program. Set the bit rate at 115200. See the video below for further information.
