2022-04-03 Methane Hydrate Could Kill Everything

Let us hope and pray that this doesn’t happen. It’s OMNICIDE – it could kill most life on Earth.

Post from a friend who is knowledgeable and is deeply concerned about the fate of humanity. ESAS is the East Siberian Arctic Shelf, where Dr. Natalia Shakhova and her teams quantified 1400GTs of methane hydrate at only 50 m deep.

It has been destabilized and in slow-release mode of the methane clathrate deposits (within 1*F of blow point). It will almost explosively expand 164 times to methane gas which reaches the surface at 160 CO2e.

Two more open ocean seasons and enough heat will have been absorbed to set it to self-release mode. A seismic jolt or warm water intrusion could blow it even more.

It causes its own seismic jolt to nearby deposits when it suddenly releases as the clathrate ice cages collapse. It will take less than what is there to cause thermal maximum within 20 years.

It is an omnicide event fast for surface life and slower for oceanic life. Will take at least 2 million years to recover enough for surface life larger than microscopic, and 50 million or more to full diversity of species. >>
