Wait for the so-called ‘model 2’ that is supposed to cost $25k before rebates. Or else buy a Hyundai or KIA or BYD or Xpeng or any other $25k or less EV.
Realistically, Tesla may never choose to become a commodity EV company. Tesla has developed a superb reputation as not just the best EV, but the best car overall. It may be very difficult for Tesla to give up this reputation to become the low price EV — the sacrifices may be too great.
The way to cut the raw materials costs of a low cost EV is to eliminate the steering, pedals, even the driver seat, and make everything level 5 autonomous EV. Basically almost everything done with software. Even the frills like infotainment will not be included; you can use your smartphone for that. It’s just a matter of time until this happens.
