2021-02-18 Q: Is 100% solar wind and batteries (or storage) possible by 2030?

Q: “Is 100% solar wind and batteries (or storage) possible by 2030?”

A: Not possible if left to the IOUs (investor owned utilities). They are regulated and if left to their own choices they will do exactly what they did in Texas — they will do the minimum necessary to maximize profits while charging the least for the service.

The federal government must take control of the decision making with regard to the national generation capabilities. The amount of power that renewables generate and store must be 4 or more times the total needed for serving the consumers. There must be enough to supply peak loads, while using the excess to generate hydrogen and store enough to supply the load for a few days of minimum sunshine and wind. All transportation must be electrified or use green hydrogen so the grid must be capable of supplying that load, also. The IOUs have no incentive to take that much risk so laws must be passed that mandate the change to renewables plus storage.
