This is really tragic. This multiple tap voltage boost transformer has to be used because the Indian electric grid is so overloaded that they can’t depend on the AC voltage to be stable. So they have to build a regulator that changes taps as the voltage drops, so that the output voltage can stay at 220 volts. This whole transformer wouldn’t be needed if their electrical grid was up to standards. But their electrical grid has so many pirate connections that it’s severely overloaded. The big distribution transformers are overloaded so severely that their line voltage to homes drops to 180 volts or even less. That’s tragic.
