2022-03-15 Are ICEVs Heading The Way Of CRTs?

The author believes it will take a lot longer to transition to EVs than it took to transition away from CRT displays.

I think the author is too pessimistic. A few years ago one would rarely see a Tesla EV. Now they are very common. And Tesla just started production in the new Gigafactory in Austin, Texas and they’re starting production in the Gigafactory near Berlin, Germany. This will double their production rate to 2 million EVs a year.

All the other carmakers are seeing Tesla steal their business so they are converting to EVs in the next few years. Another telltale sign is the legacy carmakers are discontinuing their Research & Development on gasoline engines. They are spending billions on developing electric vehicles.

But the biggest push to end fossil fueled vehicles is the skyrocketing costs of fossil fuels. Consumers have become very angry at having to spend a hundred dollars to fill their tanks with gasoline. They can charge their EV for less than 1/4 the cost of gasoline.
