2017-12-29 Shipping Costs Kill Good Deals

From FB group Vintage Transistor Radios

My comment about a radio for AU$5400 on eBay.

Dreaming, or more like wishing and hoping for a sucker to buy it.  But at least he had enough sense to add ‘or best offer’.  If someone offers a hundred, maybe he’ll take it.

I’ve had a few successes with making offers.  The main reason I offer is not that I’ll expect to be successful, but to let the seller know what a buyer thinks the item is going to sell for.  Some sellers offer items for a reasonable price, but what kills the sale is the shipping cost.  I usually tell the seller I see other similar items shipping for much less.  If the seller won’t reduce the shipping, the item will probably not sell.

Right now there’s an AM/FM/SW multiband radio selling for less than a dollar US, but it goes unsold because of the $45 shipping from Bulgaria.
