2012-02-26 LED V Boost Potted in Epoxy

I took this pic on Apr 20, 2007, about 5 years ago.  I potted the two screws so I could bolt it down to a flat surface with two nuts.  Burt, our late computer operator, used to tell me when I was searching for a screw and nut, “There’s no shortage of nuts around here.”

2012-02-20 Current Limiter, Non-Polarized

I thought that it would be much more appropriate if the current limiting circuit was made to be polarity independent, so it would work with AC as well as DC of unknown polarity.  I took the easy route: I connected the current limiting circuit up to the + and – leads of a bridge rectifier.

2012-02-10 High Voltage Flyback Information

I ran this website in Portuguese through Google translate.  It looks like good info on Flybacks.  I haven’t checked it out enough to say whether or not the site’s information is reliable. I saw one schematic where the turns ratio between the collector winding and the base winding is 2 to 1.  The supply voltage

2012-02-08 Useless Wire Stripping Tool

This combination wire stripper and cutter is the worst tool I’ve ever purchased.  I purchased it at the local hardware store (they’re now out of business) and didn’t notice the sign on the cabinet.  I got home and tried the wire stripper out on a piece of 24 AWG stranded wire. When I put the

This article sounds very interesting and seems to have far reaching implications.  BTW, boffin equals scientist.

2012-01-11 Solar Joule Thief or Garden Light

I did some experiments a few years ago with a photovoltaic solar cell charging 1 or 2 NiMH cells, and running a Joule Thief after dark.  This is commonly known as a solar garden light.  I tried to eliminate the drop across the isolation diode, which is about 1 volt for a 1N4148 or a

2012-01-05 Watson’s 3 LED Ring Oscillator

This simple circuit acts somewhat like the LED Fader in that the LEDs do not turn on and off abruptly, however since the typical speed of the ring is faster than the fader, it’s harder to tell the turn-on and turn-off.  It’s a fun circuit to build because of its simplicity and good visual effects.

2011-12-23 Circuits With errors / Omissions

This guy has had a circuits website for a long time but the circuits have errors.  I’ve sent him emails with corrections but he became annoyed, and apparently others have done so too, because he took his email address off so no one could contact him.  One wonders what motivates someone to go to all

2011-12-07 Watsonseblog May Live Again

I received emails with most of my blogs that were archived by Yahoo.  There are 35 meg worth, I’m guessing about 700 or so.  I found that I will have to add them manually, which is a major chore.  I have to sort through them and decide which ones were the most popular.  Looks like
