I bought some ultraviolet flashlights for about $5 apiece from Goldmine Electronics. These are the same as the standard 9 white LED flashlights that are found in the bargain stores except for one additional feature which is and on off switch next to the head. Normally the on/off switch is on the rear of the end cap. The body of the flashlight is made out of hard rubber. I have found that this rubber turns to a gooey substance after a year or two, which makes it really unpleasant to use. The flashlights came with three AAA batteries included. I could not find any brand name on them, other than they were made in China.
But it does put out a pretty bright UV light. The light pattern is about the same as a white LED flashlight. The UV LEDs that I have used previously had a purple or violet color. These flashlights have a bluish color. But it definitely has UV coming out; shine it at any bleached paper and the paper lights up brightly. I tried it on a few different dollar bills, tens and twenties but they all looked dull to me. I guess if they’re counterfeit then they light up brightly.
The price is reasonable but I wouldn’t recommend these to anyone if they want to keep it for more than a year because the case is going to turn into a gooey mess. If their outside can be covered up with tape or sprayed with paint then they might last longer.
