Almost every BESS – battery energy storage system – that I read about has a maximum storage of 4 hours. This Tumbleweed Project is a BESS but has 8 hours.
I don’t see why the other BESSes are not capable of running at lower power for more than 8 hours. I have this suspicion that needs confirmation: There are short periods of time during demand peaks when the demand on the electricity market exceeds the supply, and the cost of electric power skyrockets. The designers of the BESSes have optimized their BESS systems to put out maximum power for these short periods in order to make the most amount of money selling at those short peaks. So the longer multi-hour demands are sacrificed in order to maximize the amount of money the BESS can make.
This BESS is capable of long duration 8 hour use. Please tell us what is the difference between this and other BESSes.
