2020-12-09 Killefer School AKA ALC History

Bill Anderson
Thanks for telling us that. I started working for SAC in ’80 so I didn’t know how long we had been there before I came on board. Now I know that SAC was occupying the ALC aka Killefer School since at least ’72. The front of the original school is on Olive but since the all parking was on Lemon, we used the address 541 N. Lemon. I never knew that until more than a decade after I started working for the college. One day I went around to the ‘front’ and found out.

We moved out of the Killefer School in 2004, IIRC. We paid a lot to have the 90,000 sq. ft. Bldg on Batavia gutted and remodeled. But several years later it was discovered that the remodeling was never approved by the Dept. Of State Architects, so we had to move out and it sat vacant. Then a few years ago the homeless situation became critical and there was talk about the County buying the building for a homeless shelter. But that didn’t happen. Apparently the college district the the bldg was a liability and had it demolished. It is nothing but a bare concrete pad today. It’s on the east side of Batavia next to the big power lines and railroad tracks.
