Shellenberger has another pro-nuclear story Aug. 17. As usual, he wants to keep nuclear power plants that were designed for 20 years life, and are far older than that, running for even longer — maybe 80 years. But the reason why the utilities want to shut them down is because they are losing money on the NPPs. They can replace them with wind or solar for far less and in much shorter time.
China isn’t ‘stealing’ the nuclear power industry because the industry is dying in Europe and America. The utilities don’t want to be stuck with Stranded Assets. Shellenberger doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
