  1. I may have missed something in your photo but the resistor and diode seem superfluous as the circuit runs without them but, with or without them the led is very dim (a low v red LED..do you have a circuit diagram for this so I can make sure I have it hooked up correctly?

    1. The circuit diagram for both the conventional JT and Supercharged JT is at rustybolt.info/WordPress/?p=221 but the switch switches between JT and SJT. You can choose which one you want and replace the switch with a single wire. Your red LED may be glowing dimly because the 1.5 volts from the cell is making it glow, and the rest of the circuit is not oscillating. Disconnect the feedback winding and swap the two wires. Also make sure the black band end of the diode is towards the resistor. Also the ceramic capacitor should typically be marked 561, 681, 821, or 102. If these don’t help, you may have a bad transistor or other part.
