Drought. We cannot live without water. We must have water to live. We must have water to grow our food. It’s not possible to go into enough depth about this subject in 1 hour.
This short video is a teaser for the movie Beyond The Mirage: The future of Water in the West. I watched the movie on PBS Socal this evening from 11PM to midnight.
Some information I heard:
Agriculture uses 80% of the water; the rest uses only 20%.
In many agricultural areas the ground water has been depleted so the farmers had to drill their wells deeper. Some wells are so deep that it cost hundreds of thousands to drill. And it costs so much for the electricity to pump the water up that the water is becoming too expensive.
California’s Central Valley grows 40% of the nation’s food.
Traditional agriculture uses 10 to 20 gallons of water per pound of tomatoes.
