I think that after the technology for autonomous EVs advances to a plateau and independent scientists analyze the failures (accidents) then there will be changes made to the road infrastructure, such as traffic signals that have their LEDs modulated with data about the location, etc. The vehicles will be more controlled by the traffic system they are in and the vehicles will not have to be so aware. The traffic system will control more and the vehicles less. I think it may take a few decades to get to the point where the system will allow driverless vehicles.
