2023-08-18 Ferroelectric Memory Transistor Demonstrated

Several decades ago I read about these new Josephson devices that the scientists had invented, and how they would do wonderful things in the future. Here we are decades later and we hear nothing about Josephson devices. So here’s another interesting device, it uses indium selenide. It sounds promising but it may end up like

2023-08-12 Moore’s Law Is Dead? – Sabine

Sabine Hossenfelder goes over the history and ways that Moore’s Law may still make progress. Also a few good comments.

2023-08-07 Auto ECM Electronic Repair – A New Business Opportunity

This is a quote from a post in a group about auto ECM – electronic control module – repair. “”Andrew Brown 12h To the young budding electronics techs out there – listen up. This is a potential opportunity for you to build a decent business with pretty dedicated customers. (No involvement on my part.) The

2023-07-16 26H20 Radar Repair At Ft. Monmouth, NJ

In 1966 I completed basic training and went to Ft. Monmouth, NJ for 10 months of Radar repair training. The last half of the course we got to work on the actual Radars in *that* barn-like building in the photo. I was on the graveyard shift. There were birds flying around up in the rafters

2023-07-14 Solve The Resistor Cube Problem

Last year I tried redrawing the cube in two dimensions and I could see how the vurrents were splitting but couldn’t solve it. Now here is a simpler solution that doesn’t require a lot of effort with whatever. I built the cube from 1k resistors and measured the value from corner to opposite corner, and

2023-07-12 DC-DC Converters That Used Germanium Power Transistors

Me and my high school friend made a DC to DC converter that would give us 30 or so volts at a couple amps from a 12 volt battery.  We used germanium power transistors which could not go much above 10 kHz.  The Delco’s and the 2N458A’s were our favorites – we managed to push

2023-07-09 Groundbreaking Research Transmits Energy From Space To Earth

This is definitely groundbreaking. But I don’t understand why they’re doing it this way. I think the array that’s in space should be as simple as possible – an array made up of thin sheets of metallized mylar that reflect the sunlight to the photovoltaic array on Earth. In their system and mine, there has

2023-07-07 Distribution Transformer Shortage

Apparently the disasters like storms, tornadoes, hurricanes and transformer failures are eating up all the supplies of distrbution transformers and manufacturers can’t keep up with the demand. If there were a disaster, the orders for replacements to get the neighborhoods back on the grid may be held up for weeks or more. https://www.publicpower.org/periodical/article/appa-survey-members-shows-distribution-transformer-production-notmeeting-demand

2023-06-27 The Reasons Behind The Chip Shortage (Sabine)

Very good video about the chip shortage. There were fires in several plants, natural disasters like the earthquake in Fukushima, and too much dependence on only a few factories. We need to prevent this from happening again.

2023-06-06 ITT2222 Not Standard Pinout Of PN2222

Caroline Joy Barnhart Your Kit must’ve had those “high quality” Radio Scrap components. 😆 My guess is you got one of the ITT2222 transistors. They made their plastic packaged version of the 2N2222 so that it did *not* conform to the standard E B C of the PN2222 or MPS2222. They were unpopular because they
