2014-07-18 Fluorescent Lights Replaced With LEDs

I stopped by to see the guys at my ex- work. One guy told me they noticed the furniture had been moved around, and some metal shavings on the tables. He looked up and saw that the fluorescent tubes had plastic clamps holding them in with sheet metal screws. But he didn’t notice one thing:

2014-04-16 Kruithof Curve

Paul sent me a link to a Wikipedia article, http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kruithof_curve which is new to me.  I was introduced to some other illumination terms such as correlated color temperature by the website donklipstein.com which has a wealth of info on lighting and LED lights. Before CFL and LED lights, we were using incandescent lights which have

2014-04-09 Nichia 3.3W, 225 Lm LEDs And Night Joule Thief PC Board

I left the Nichia LED on the power supply overnight, at about 85 to 90 mA, and it didn’t seem to have any problem.  I decided that I had to design a circuit to drive it from a low voltage, such as two AA rechargeable cells.  I drew up a circuit, which had two transistors

2014-04-08 Philips Lollipop LED Lights

I received my order of four LED lights made by Philips yesterday.  They’re called SlimStyle, but they look like lollipops.  It’s 2700 K warm white, 800 lumens and 10.5 watts. The model # is 9290002707. It’s also known as Philips 433227, but I don’t see that on the package. I screwed it into a lamp

2014-02-28 Book Reading Light

When I go to the big box stores I usually stop look up the flashlights to see what’s new.  I often see a palm sized flashlight with 27  LED’s, 24 of them on the flat side.  The case is rounded on the corners and is typically yellow and black; the price is about $4 or

2014-01-27 LED Auto Dome Light Is Too Hot

I took apart a “Type R” LED light, which is a substitute for a wedge base auto light used in instrument panels and dome lights.  This light has an 8 mm diameter LED and a 560 ohm, 1/8 watt resistor in the wedge base.  Assuming that the LED drops 3.2 volts and the auto’s battery

2014-01-05 CFLs On The Wane?

I think that, with the price of LED light bulbs coming down to commodity levels and their long life, the CFL bulbs will become more difficult to obtain.  The LED lights are more efficient than CFLs or incandescent bulbs, and there has been a steady increase in Efficiency over time, which will probably continue. Someday

2014-01-03 eBay- LED Lights And Remote Control

I was perusing the stuff on eBay and found a couple things that interested me.  The first was the Remote Control Light Socket.  It screws into the existing socket and then the light (says LED) screws into it.  I’m hoping that since it says LED they did not do something funny and reduce its current

2014-01-02 Incandescent Bulbs Banned In the USA

Well, this is not new, the 100 watt and 75 watt incandescent bulbs have already been banned for awhile, but starting today, 40 watt and 60 watt incandescent bulbs will be banned.  These will no longer be manufactured or imported into the U.S.A.  There are some exceptions, such as appliance, fish aquarium and specialty lights,

2013-12-26 High Power LED Flasher – Strobe

This is a continuation of the 2013 Dec 18 blog.  It was getting too long, and so is this blog. Update Dec 24 – I searched for high current pulse gen schematic using Google and I didn’t come up with anything near enough to what I’m looking for.  I saw a lot of high tech
