{"id":3818,"date":"2012-08-23T06:59:10","date_gmt":"2012-08-23T13:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rustybolt.info\/wordpress\/?p=3818"},"modified":"2013-11-13T07:46:07","modified_gmt":"2013-11-13T15:46:07","slug":"2012-08-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rustybolt.info\/wordpress\/?p=3818","title":{"rendered":"2012-08-23 Watson&#8217;s Supercharged Joule Thief Flasher Photo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/rustybolt.info\/wordpress\/?attachment_id=4784\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4784\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-4784\" title=\"SJT-Flash2-DSC_0017S9a\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/rustybolt.info\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/SJT-Flash2-DSC_0017S9a-300x203.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rustybolt.info\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/SJT-Flash2-DSC_0017S9a-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rustybolt.info\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/SJT-Flash2-DSC_0017S9a.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I think this picture and schematic was posted to my watsonseblog. but it didn&#8217;t get posted to this rustybolt.info\/wordpress\/ blog.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a picture of my SJT Flasher with the parts labeled, and a schematic of same (click on the picture more than once to enlarge).<\/p>\n<p>I looked in my folders and found another picture of the PC board.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have a PC running Windoze at home and I can&#8217;t access the PC board files on disk because the program that accesses them only runs only under Windoze. \u00a0 This file lets anyone look at all three layers of the PC board at the same time.\u00a0 When I sent the file in to have the PC boards made, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expresspcb.com\"><strong>ExpressPCB<\/strong><\/a> company did not offer the &#8220;Miniboards&#8221; with a silkscreen layer (yellow in the picture).\u00a0 They do offer it now, for an additional cost.\u00a0 Paul asked me about this board, and at this time this is as much as I can find.\u00a0 Until I get a Windows PC or the company offers a software version that runs under Linux, I am not able to update the circuit board.<a href=\"http:\/\/rustybolt.info\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/SJT-Flash-2PCB.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8251\" alt=\"SJT-Flash-2(PCB)\" src=\"http:\/\/rustybolt.info\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/SJT-Flash-2PCB-266x300.gif\" width=\"266\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The LED turns on when power is applied, and the 4u7 begins to charge up.\u00a0 When it has charged up, the SJT shuts off and waits for the 150k to discharge the 4u7.\u00a0 Then the cycle repeats.\u00a0 Quantsuff did some experimenting with it on his web page, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.quantsuff.com\">www.quantsuff.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The two smaller holes, one above the 680p and the other next to the collector are the feedback winding leads.\u00a0 The primary leads are near the 22u &#8220;+&#8221; and collector.\u00a0 The filtered DC output is at the two holes below the + and &#8211; holes.\u00a0 Or you can move the LED to these holes.<\/p>\n<p>A 1 ohm resistor or a jumper goes in the holes labeled &#8216;1&#8217;.\u00a0 This is for measuring the LED current.\u00a0 For example, 20 millivolts equals 20 milliamps.<\/p>\n<p>The SD is a (Schottky) diode to rectify the output.\u00a0 The filter capacitor goes in the holes with + and &#8211; to the right of the SD.<\/p>\n<p>What you can add to this board is a CdS photocell across (or in place of) the 680p capacitor.\u00a0 The 4u7 should be replaced with a 47 pF or 100 pF capacitor, and the 150k by a 100k pot or whatever resistor you choose to determine the brightness and current.<\/p>\n<p>You can remove the SJT and make it into a regular JT.\u00a0 Just remove the 680p, jumper D1 and the 4u7, and change the 1k5 to whatever resistor you choose to determine the brightness and current.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I think this picture and schematic was posted to my watsonseblog. but it didn&#8217;t get posted to this rustybolt.info\/wordpress\/ blog.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a picture of my SJT Flasher with the parts labeled, and a schematic of same (click on the picture more than once to enlarge).
