UCS\u2019s 2015&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucsusa.org\/resources\/climate-deception-dossiers\">Climate Deception Dossiers<\/a>\u2014cited in California\u2019s complaint\u2014highlighted an infamous 1998 internal API&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucsusa.org\/sites\/default\/files\/attach\/2015\/07\/Climate-Deception-Dossier-2_API-Climate-Science-Communications-Plan.pdf\">memo<\/a>&nbsp;that outlined a roadmap to cultivate purportedly independent scientists as climate disinformers, confuse the public about climate science, and derail climate policies.&#8221;&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;&#8221;&#8230;Scope 3 emissions from burning its products, which account for about 85 percent of the total emissions attributable to [ExxonMobil].&#8221;&#8221;  In other words, most of ExxonMobil&#8217;s emissions are not from ExxonMobil itself; the products ExxonMobil sells are causing the emissions and these products must be counted in ExxonMobil&#8217;s total emissions.   That makes them a huge polluter when Scope 3 emissions are included.
