All the AA5 single ended OPTs I’ve taken apart have had the ‘air gap’ which is really a piece of paper. I presume that is because the DC current magnetized the core and if it didn’t have the gap it would saturate and have a lot of distortion. I used to use those 50C5 OPTs for speaker to line transformers on longer lines around the outside. They sometimes had enough room to wind enough turns on to make a 50 or 100 ohm primary to 4 ohm out for transistors. That’s the great thing about transformers: you can pretty much see what you have and make a few measurements and get the rest. 👍
